·        1st of its YouTube Talk Series ‘IITHum’ is launched with Season 1: #IITHAlumniDiary, Episode 1: #Semiconductor4SelfReliant by PRO Office to commemorate the Decennial Year Celebration of IITH Alumni

·        10/10, an initiative by IITH Alumni Association finalists were also announced 

Hyderabad, December 18, 2022: Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad celebrated its 3rd Alumni Day on December 18, 2022, in hybrid mode for those who cannot witness the event. This year, the Institute has announced the 3rd set of Alumni Awards with a special Alumni Excellence Award for Entrepreneurship & Contribution to Nation Building, Institute Building to encourage Entrepreneurship among IITHians and be on the motto to serve Humanity. The following alums have received the awards under the categories: 

       I.          Excellence in Academics and technology development

a)     Dr Appina Balasubramanyam – EE (MTech, 2015 & PhD, 2019)       

b)     Dr Vaseem Akram – LA (PhD, 2020)   

 

     II.          Promising Entrepreneur

a)     Mr Ayush Pateria – CSE (BTech, 2019)  

b)     Ms Shweta Suresh Thakare – LA (MA, 2021) Special Mention

 

   III.          Distinguished Contribution to the Institute

a)     Mr Ashwin Nandapurkar – MAE (B.Tech, 2015)  

 

   IV.          Distinguished contribution to society and nation-building

a)     Dr Anesh Kumar Sharma – EE (PhD, 2013)  

 

     V.          Contribution to Institute-Alumni Relations

a)     Mr Sai Kiran Wupadrasta – CSE (BTech, 2015 & EMDS, 2019)  

 

While delivering the welcome address, Dr Mudrika Khandelwal, Dean (Alumni Relations), said, “Alumni are the flag bearers across the globe for us. I feel proud and privileged that I belong to IITH, as all our alumni are very young, connected and generous. We are happy to share that out of 5200+ Alumni approx.; we are connected to over 4500+ Alumni, and many initiatives like Alumni Meets, Foster Series, Alumni Newsletter, Campus Access, and Alumni-Student Mentorship which are among the initial steps. This will facilitate us to remain well connected with our alumni and will be of mutual benefit. I congratulate Pioneer batches on completing a decade of graduation. Urge to stay connected through collaborations, mentorship, and giving back. Thank you to the batch to initiate the culture of a legacy project.” 

Speaking to the Alumni, Prof Saptarshi Majumdar, Dean (Academic), said, “IITH, with great zeal, has been ranked the top 10 Institutes in its very first 10 years of inception, Don’t stop till you get what you deserve.” 

Getting nostalgic with the Alumni, Prof K Venkatasubbaiah, Dean (Students), said, “Wherever you are, do your best for the society, and good will come to you.”

Expressing delight to see the enthusiastic Alumni, Prof S Surya Kumar, Dean (Innovation, Translation & Startups), said, “The Campus life is the most prominent stage of every student’s life, and this get-together like Convocation & Alumni Day give us great memories and additional responsibilities for the future. Hope IITH fulfilled all the hopes and faith with which you have made the decision to join here a decade ago.” 

Encouraging Alumni with his enthusiastic words, Prof B S Murty, Director, IITH, while addressing the gathering, said, “A zeal to be unique and distinct in every aspect, from the campus architecture to innovative and interdisciplinary courses to technology development, being the main motto of IITH from its inception, has put IITH in the league ahead. Not being a conventional institute, IITH is trying to maintain its own Identity. We believe in the idea that education to be student-centric and engineering education needs to be industry oriented.  IITH aims to create a number of students who create jobs and do not run after the jobs. To support Incubation and Innovation to the whole nation, IITH has set up a deanship in a new arena called Innovation, Translation and Startups. A joint effort of Alumni, Students and Faculty can take the Institute to greater heights and make it the Best Institute in the Nation and World indeed. 

Speaking about the initiatives of the Alumni Association of the Institute, Dr Sai Chandra Teja, President, Ms Pratyusha, VP (Foreign) & Mr Nitin, VP (India), IITH Alumni Association (IITHAA), said, “We will build upon the legacy created by past associations-. During this term, Alumni Association has expanded the Startup & Mentoring Culture at IITH with the help of the Office of Annual Relations and Media & Alumni Cell. The new website of IITHAA reflects the same. We are now planning to have a stronger connection among ourselves by having a State Secretary in every Geographical Region in India and Abroad possible.” 

On Occasion, IITHAA announced 23 finalists of 10/10.  IITHAA is set out to create the inaugural 10 on 10 list, to honor the next 10 big visionaries & Most Influential Alumni of IITH in the last 10 years in Entrepreneurship, Technology, Social, Corporate and Administration. 

Alumni Awardees and other Alumni have also shared how they can contribute to the growth of the IITH. 

At the end of the formal event, Ms Mitalee Agrawal, Public Relations Officer, IITH, presented IITHum – The Voice of IIT Hyderabad, one of its kind YouTube Talk Series and released the Season 1: #IITHAlumniDiary, Episode 1: #Semiconductor4SelfReliant featuring Dr Anesh Kumar Sharma, Director (Technical), ECIL, Hyderabad. 

On December 17, a sports meet followed by a special evening get-together was planned for Decennial Batch. On December 18, the day started with departmental interactions followed by the formal event, Food in New Mess, Panel Discussion, Student Interactions and conclusion of the celebration with the Tour of Kandi and ODF Campus.
