ODOP zone at GIS venue drew many visitors: Official

Bhopal, Feb 26 (IANS) The ‘One District-One Product’ (ODOP) zone was a key attraction for both foreign and domestic investors who attended the Global Investors Summit (GIS) at Indira Gandhi Manav Sangrahalay complex in Bhopal, an official said on Tuesday.

The ODOP zone showcased selected products from various districts aiming to attract investment and highlight the uniqueness of local industries. Special products from different districts of the state were showcased during the GIS included Gwalior sand stone, Burhanpur’s banana products, Betul’s metal decoration material, Shivpuri’s jacket, Sehore’s wooden toys, etc.

Visitors explored, understood, and appreciated the diverse products representing different districts of Madhya Pradesh.

They also enjoyed Bundelkhandi, Malvi and traditional tribal cuisine. Beside regional products, the guests also witnessed the glimpse of the colourful folk culture of the state.

Additionally, a large exhibition titled ‘One District-One Product Village’ was organised to provide national and international market exposure to these products.

Initially, the concept of ODOP was introduced by Madhya Pradesh government during the Regional Industrial Summits (RIS) held in the past one year in view to promote regional products globally and paving the way for economic boost.

The state government is actively promoting local artists and indigenous products, offering special encouragement to their growth and recognition.

Worth mentioning that, so far, 19 products from various districts of Madhya Pradesh have received the prestigious geographical indication (GI) tag.

These GI-tagged products include – Chanderi saree, Bagh print, Ratlami Sev, Kadaknath Chicken, Chinnor Rice, Boutique Print, Stone Craft, Leather Toy, Bell Metal Ware, Gond Painting and others.
