New Delhi, March 9 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday hailed Rohit Sharma under whose captaincy Team India won the ICC Champions Trophy, beating New Zealand by 4 wickets in the finale at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The party also took a dig at the Congress for body-shaming controversy involving Rohit Sharma.

Captain Rohit Sharma top-scored with 76 while Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya chipped in with important contributions to give India their third Champions Trophy triumph with a four-wicket win over New Zealand.

In a cryptic post on X, the BJP wrote, “Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, Team India wins T20 World Cup 2024…Team India wins #ChampionsTrophy 2025. 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞, 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬…”

The BJP’s cryptic post came days after Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed made harsh remarks on Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma.

Shama Mohamed taking to her social media handle commented, “Rohit Sharma is fat for a sportsman. Need to lose weight! And of course, the most unimpressive Captain India has ever had.”

However, after Team India’s win, Congress leader Shama Mohamed on Sunday praised Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

In a post on X, she wrote, “Congratulations to #TeamIndia for their stupendous performance in winning the #ChampionsTrophy2025! Hats off to Captain @ImRo45 who led from the front with a brilliant 76, setting the tone for victory. @ShreyasIyer15 and @klrahul played crucial knocks, steering India to glory! A triumph to remember!”

Meanwhile, the Congress also congratulated the Team India.

The party said in an X post, “𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐀. The Indian cricket team has won the Champions Trophy by defeating New Zealand. Every citizen of the country is proud of the excellent performance of Team India. Team India has achieved this milestone due to the excellent performance of each and every player of the team. Congratulations and best wishes to all the players of the team for this great success. Jai Hind.”
