Madhya Pradesh: 2 killed in road accident; CM announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia

Bhopal, March 10 (IANS) Two persons were killed in a road accident when a speeding 20-wheeled truck ran over them on Gadarwara-Tendukheda road under Gadarwara police station area of Narsinghpur district (200 km from Bhopal eastward).

The victims, returning home on a bike after bathing in the Narmada, met their untimely death when the truck hit them.

According to police, one was trapped under the wheels of the truck while the other was dragged for a considerable distance.

Both the victims, identified as Deepak (26), son of Komal Prasad Dhanuk, and Abhishek (25), son of Narendra Dhanuk, were the sole breadwinners in their families as both were labourers.

Expressing profound grief over the incident, the state chief minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to next of the kin to the deceased.

“Based on the information received, both deceased individuals were the sole sons in their families, relying on labour to earn their livelihood. Their loss has plunged their families into profound grief and financial distress. During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt solidarity to the mourning families. The district administration has swiftly provided immediate financial assistance, and an additional sum of Rs 2 lakh each has been directed from the Chief Minister’s discretionary fund to support the bereaved families,” Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his grief over the incident on his X handle.

In the aftermath, the police, with the help of local residents, extricated the bodies and admitted one to Gadarwara hospital, from where he was referred to the district hospital but could not survive.

The villagers, enraged by the incident, staged a protest with the deceased’s bodies in front of Gadarwara hospital, raising slogans against the police administration for taking no action to control speeding heavy vehicles and demanding financial assistance for the victims’ families.

They said Deepak, one of the victims is survived by his wife, a 6-month-old daughter two sisters and an elderly mother. The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, abandoning the vehicle.
