Hyderabad, June 2nd, 2022: A High-level delegation from the Consulate of Canada, comprising of Mr. Benoit Prefontaine, Consul General of Canada; Mr. Kenneth Wong, Consul and Senior Trade Commissioner of Canada and Mr. Vikram Jain, Trade commissioner in Consulate General of Canada; called on H.E. Dr. Nawab Mir Nasir Ali Khan, Promoter and Managing Director MAK Projects; and later visited the Canadian Sustainable wood villa being constructed at BTR Greens MAK projects, today. This prestigious venture is being undertaken by MAK projects in collaboration with Forestry Innovation Investment (FII), a crown agency of Government British Columbia in Canada, with its headquarters at Vancouver. Mir Osman Ali Khan, Director Business Development; MAK Projects; guided them through the one of its kind wooden villa projects in India.

The delegation was extremely keen to witness the progress of the wooden villa project on the other side of the globe, as it holds immense significance for their future endeavors using wood for construction, in Asia Pacific Region. The Canadian team was immensely impressed with the way the project has taken shape. They were highly appreciative of MAK Projects bold initiative to venture into a concept of living not so popular here and create awareness about wooden dwellings and its advantages, in this part of the world.

Briefing the delegation about the reason for switching from concrete to sustainable wood construction, Mir Osman Ali Khan, said, the lumber imported from Canada is seasoned, graded and sized and is reliable and legal. Wood is a recyclable, biodegradable, reusable, eco-friendly and carbon negative, besides wood construction being less time consuming and has minimal use of water, sand and concrete. Wooden structures are the way forward as they limit the amount of carbon in the atmosphere and greenhouse gas emissions, making the planet more liveable. He cited the recent meta study which offered the strongest evidence of timber buildings drastically reducing carbon emissions in the construction industry.

The Consul General expressed delight at the traction the wooden villa project is witnessing from the construction industry, investors, officials and politicians alike and was particularly glad at the interest evinced by Hon’ble Minister of Karnataka for Municipal Administration, Shri MTB Nagaraj, during his recent visit to BTR Greens MAK projects and the invitation he extended to Mir Nasir Ali khan to build sustainable wood projects in Bangalore. They later planted trees to commemorate their visit to MAK Projects.
